self protraits
Yuki Kaori was born on December 18th in Tokyoto (Tokyo Province) and her blood type is B.
Her penname comes from Saitou Yuki's YUKI and her own real first name KAORI, and she's been determined to become a manga artist since she was in elementary school. She likes cats, cheesecake, coffee, sleeping, movies, shiny laces, the moon, Alice in Wonderland and JRock bands (yes, very random, I know). She became a professional manga artist in 1987 for Hana to Yume after placing in one of their art contests. She describes herself as temperamental and lacks both memory (long or short term) and self control. Since she doesn't like publicity and prefer to live the life of a hermit, there is really very little that we know about her.
She started learning how to draw at a very early age, and her first practice work (before becoming a professional) is called "Vampire's Love". The last practice piece that she did before her official debut was the one that placed her in the semi-finals of the art contest, called "Love Hunt" (a story which she consdiers to be "old, pathetic and couldn't possibly win"). Since her debut work "Natsufuku no Erie" was published in Hana to Yume's Monthly issue, she began a series of short stories (Cruel Fairytales, Neji, Gravel Kingdom etc.) that built a path to creating her own unique style.
Yuki Kaori considers her own art to have been largely influenced by western painting and music from her high school days. In her world, there is no absolute right or wrong, everything is left to the choice of her characters. Most characteristic of her stories is the indepth depiction of her character's inner struggles and faults. Everything becomes a journey of the character's mind in search of what they consider to be salvation. It is a paradise for the fallen.
