Mudou Setsuna A cheerful, outgoing, quick-tempered high school freshman who has a whole bunch of family problems, divorced parents, uncaring father, loathsome mother, plus he realizes that he's hopelessly in love with his own sister. In addition, people all start to come after him because he's the reincarnation of a great angel, and maybe for the slimmest chance, the messiah. Currently the #1 wanted man in supreme heaven who allied himself with the Evils of Gehenna.
	Mudou Sara Setsuna's sister who's also in love with him, and the reincarnation of the archangel Jibrille. After her human self died to protect Setsuna, her soul was once again returned to Jibrille's body though her mind remained human. Her body was later resurrected by Raphael. She is kind and not afraid to speak her mind, is always quick to challenge the authorities while she spends most of her story time being imprisoned in supreme heaven.
	Kira Sakuya Setsuna's senpai from school and has been his best friend and mentor for many years. In reality, he is the cursed soul of the sword Nanatsusaya reincarnated. Generally he's cool and mysterious, but seems to really love Alexiel very deeply to have followed her incarnations through the ages. He doesn't remember anything of his life before he was sealed in the sword until he went to hell and things began to seem familiar.
	Katou Yue A rotten classmate of Kira's and also Setsuna's senpai who loves to pick on him. He was at first controlled by Rociel and when his human body died, he became Setsuna's ancestral guardian spirit in the underworld. Afterwards, the archangel Uriel "revived" him by giving him a new body made from fibers of the Uchuju and he has been an important member of the good guy gang since. He also has a very deep friendship with Kira.
	Alexiel AKA the Organic Angel, Rociel's twin elder sister. She loves him very much, but he became more mentally insane, she raised an army to oppose him and the heaven under his rule, as a result, Rociel was defeated and sealed for millenniums and Alexiel who was powerless after defeating him, was captured. She had her body and soul separated - the body was sealed in the Angel Crystal and her soul was put into the cycle of reincarnation which eventually ended up in Setsuna.
	Rociel Alexiel's twin and younger brother, also known as the Inorganic Angel. He became the second Great Seraphim (= ruler of heaven) after Lucifer's betrayal, however he was mentally breaking down as time went by. Eventually he became crazy and sadistic, he loved Alexiel very much but also hates her for ignoring him, he thinks that she hates him because although born as twins, only he alone has all of God's attention. He was resurrected from the seal by Katan.
	Lucifer Once the most powerful and glorious angel in heaven, and the first Great Seraphim who was below none other but God, he was always hiding his dark nature under a mask. When he betrayed heaven and led his group of followers to a new land, they found a desolate, lifeless place where no living thing could survive. He used his powers and merged with the land of hell so that the earth itself became his body. His soul on the other hand was placed in the sword Nanatsusaya.
	Katan He was originally a bodiless spirit, the lowest class of angels who would give up their energy when needed and die after a short meaningless life. Rociel was the one who gave him a body and rebirth, he is now an officer of the Cherubims but his loyalty remains with Rociel. He went to earth to free him using forbidden magic, beginning the Angel Sanctuary project. Rociel is like a father to him, but they seem more intimate than that; he would do anything for him despite having a good heart.

• the archangels

	Michael Michael is Lucifiel's twin brother although they do not look alike at all. Because he was always dependent on Lucifiel, his body never left its child state although his mind already reached maturity, which makes him really short and looks like a kid. He is the chief of the Powers of the commander of the angel forces. He fought off the demon invasion under Lucifer in the first great war and the two things you never mention in his face are his brother and his height.
	Raphael Raphael is the Great Virtue though he has no virtues at all. As a result of a scandel directed by Belial, he's given up his innocence and spends most of his day playing with women. He is the guardian of the wind of the four elements and also the official healer in heaven. He has revived both Setsuna and Sara's human bodies during the story and after spending time with Sara, he grew to love her for real. He is also Michael's best friend and the only one who can beat some sense into him.
	Uriel He is the guardian of earth and also the angel of death. After given up on the corrupt government in heaven, with Zaphkiel's help he went into hiding and lived by the Uchuju in Hades. In the past, he had loved Alexiel who didn't love him in return and by his voice, he used the power to curse Alexiel into eternal suffering and reincarnation. As a result, he also took his own voice and speaks now directly into people's heads. He is like a fatherly figure to Katou.
	Gabriel/Jibrille The angel of water and once was the Great Cherubim. Jibrille was opposing Sevotharte's cruel policies in heaven, so he stabbed her in the back of her neck with his needles and placed her into a coma. Her soul in the mean time was placed into the cycle of reincarnation and became Mudou Sara, Setsuna's guardian angel. When Sara's human body died, her soul returned to Jibrille's body but her memories as Sara remained.
	Zaphekiel The Great Throne of the archangels, he first appeared as a blind priest to Setsuna. In secret, he is the leader of the rebel angel organization known as Anima Mundi that opposes Sevotharte's iron rule. He is quiet, rational and always calm, but deep inside, he hides a very tragic past, where once he had killed the woman he loved and his eyes were blinded in the process. He continues to search for the light that Anael wanted to show him.
	Raziel A brave boy angel under Zaphkiel. He was originally rescued by Zaphkiel from a inhumane research center because he is what the angels call "Improper Child". He has served Zaphkiel wholeheartedly ever since and became even more dedicated to the cause when he found out that Zaphkiel was the rebel leader. Before Zaphkiel's death, it became apparent that Raziel is the son that Zaphkiel had and lost with Anael. He inherited Zaphkiel's cause and became the next rebel leader.
	Metatron Being the Great Seraphim, he is in short the king of heaven, but being a child, the real power falls into the hands of his guardian, Prime Minister Sevotharte. Metatron doesn't do much besides play with his toys. There is one particular toy - a rabbit - that he likes most of all. Although he appears not to have any contact with the outside world, he sees much through his dreams. His favorite person in heaven in Jibrille who's always been kind to him.
	Sevotharte Shortened as Sevi, Sevotharte is the prime minister of heaven and Metatron's guardian. He always wears a mask not letting anyone see his face and wears long white robe. He hates dirt (ie. neat freak) and always says that his dream is to clense heaven into becoming a white and pure world. He has a personal group of guards that are loyal to him alone called the White Company. The story behind him goes back to Zaphkiel and Anael.
	Sandolphon Metatron's twin brother Sandy is the nightmare in heaven. When the twins were born, one has a body but no powers and one has powers but no body. Sandy appears in various forms, mainly in Metatron's dreams or as the Rabbit, or perhaps even possessing Metatron, but his dream is to have a body of his own. A body that can accept him permanently must match his own genes which is why he targets to impregnate Laila and then Sara.

	Kurai Kurai is the princess and Dragon Master of the Gehenna Kingdom which is located in Anagura - the topmost level of Hell. Her people are called the Evils and their most distinguishable characteristic is dark skin. Kurai being the successor has the ability to communicate with the Dragon Gods that the Evils worship. She also has a habit of dressing up like a boy, in human age equivalent, she is about 13 years old. She falls in love with Setsuna in the process of searching for Alexiel's soul.
	Arakune Kurai's cousin, Arakune is a guy! although he has a hobby of crossdressing. An important figure in the Gehenna Kingdom but betrays Kurai in the end. His real identity is Kurai's older brother (real name unknown) who took on the identity of Arakune as a spy for the demons of Hell. It is his revenge on his father, the old king, for sacrificing him to protect Kurai who is the real Dragon Master. He reports to Mad Hatter of the Seven Satans.
	Voice A hot tempered kid among the Evils who secretly likes Kurai, and therefore is very hostile to Setsuna, also because he hates angels. After spending some time with Setsuna, he came to accept him as the messiah and is one of the first people to speak out for him. His arm was cut off by Michael in a confrontation and later when he accidentally found out Arakune's secret before everyone else, Arakune killed him.
	Noice Noice is Voice's twin older sister After Voice's death, she cut her hair short and was determined to go with Setsuna into Sheol to find the killer. She believe there is a traitor among them and has been suspecting Arakune for a while. After returning to Gehenna, she became Kurai's right hand in helping and protecting the princess. In short, one of those people you always see standing on the side. When Gehenna was destroyed by Rociel, she and Kurai alone survived.
	Kai Kai is Arakune's servant when he was still a young prince. He was made to believe that he was the king's successor and worked very hard for that cause until one day when the angels attacked and killed everyone, Arakune was saved but he heard two ministers saying that he was only a decoy and the real Dragon Master was Kurai. Kai had also survived but he couldn't believe that the master he gave his life surving was only a decoy, and Arakune killed him in his madness.
	Dragon Gods There are three sisters: Jade, Amber and Agate who together are called the Dragon Gods. They are the gods that the Evils worship and the eldest - Jade - have the power to foretell the future so they are there to advice Kurai. Kurai is the only person who can call on them by using the special earring that she wears. Arakune tried once but only the true Dragon Master can communicate with the dragons. They usually appear in the form of three fancily dressed young women.

	Mad Hatter One of the Seven Satans who takes on the sin of Pride. Her real name is Belial and once a Virtue under Raphael, since she fell in love with Lucifiel and sided with him in the first great war, she became a demon and took on the name "Mad Hatter". Only Lucifer is allowed to call her by her old name. She is entrusted by the demons with the task of finding bride sacrifices to appease the Demon Lord's wrath. For the final sacrifice, she has targed Kurai as the 999th bride.
	Astaroth The Satan who takes on the sin of Sloth, Astaroth was once a Throne and in Hell he is known as the Duke of Terror. His sanity has been hanging on a thin thread ever since God did a crazy experiment on him and his sister Astarte and put them into the same body. Two minds cannot share the same shell and Astaroth who was outstanding and excelled in everything detests to share his body with his lowly sister.
	Astarte Astaroth's sister who is forced to share a body with her brother. For that, Lucifer cast a spell on them so that they will not both possess the body at the same time. Using a two headed snake as the medium, the spell locks one of their minds inside the snake while the other is in the body. So depending on whether the snake is black or white, the person in side the body is Astaroth or Astarte. Astarte longs to have a child because she cannot be impregnated and she stuffs living girls into herself.
	Asmodeus one of the seven satans, sin of lust. a cool attractive middle aged man who likes to seduce women, though the one that he really desires is forever out of his reach, that proud and poisonous butterfly... for her sake, he's always at a little war with Lucifer
	Barbelo one of the seven satans, the queen of wrath, she is Lucifer's wife and had 9 children with him, though everyone knows that they were all actually bastards she had with other demons, her real name is Bal, a servant angel who took care of Lucifiel and Michael from long ago
	Prince Abaddon prince of hell, son of Barbelo and Lucifer (supposedly), a menacing beast cursed with the power that kills anyone who sees it, but he's really kind and gentle and became very protective of Kurai when he learned that she was his new mother

	Anael she was Zaphkiel's lover who only appeared in flashbacks, she had a son with Zaphkiel and he was Raziel, she was Laila's best friend and the project leader of the Sandolphon experiment
	Doll she was a machine/robot created by Uriel, her soul came from Kirie who died with a broken heart so now she put all her love into Uriel and takes care of him as his maid
	Nydd Hogg the dragon who guards Uchuuju, he use to be an angel in love with Laila, though he died because of her, he still hasn't forgotten her. Since Laila can never be together with Zaphkiel, I suppose Nydd Hogg is best for her
	Enra-ou this is the ruler of Hades, the world of the dead, he or it seems to be a multi-spirit body with many weird faces, "enra-ou" is actually an asian word for the king of the dead.
	Moonliel she is a cute little stupid maid with a very kind heart. she served Sara who was in Jibrille's form and her name was given by Sara.
	Belial at one time she was a Virtue under Raphael, she was another crazy experiment by god, her name means "worthless" and she thought she would really live up to her name. she was obsessively in love with Lucifer
	Dubbiel while Jibrille was put out of action by Sevi, he became the deputy Great Cherubim. he's very cowardly and frightened of Sevotharte, but then Rociel converted him to one of his own servents
	Laila the real identity of Sevotharte, she was Anael's best friend but at the same time jealous of the all perfect Anael, especially when Zaphkiel only had an interest in Anael, some men took advantage of her and she went to Sandolphon for help to make her a different person
	Mr. Bunny the doll that Metatron is always hugging, while Sevotharte's medicine is working, he only appears while Metatron is dreaming, but he is really Sandolphon's consciousness which is one with his twin brother Metatron
	Shateiel Raziel-kun's first love, she's the leader of the I children living in the slums. she got to know Raziel pretty well and became friends with him, but then all the I children were killed by the government, including her
	Teiaiel she was an abandoned child with a man eating past, she has the special power to hear the voices in people's hearts. she became Katan's friend in his desperate times and they made a pact to always be together and never kill another angel, but Katan broke it when she died and that Rociel was in danger
	Sariel chief of the Principalities, he is the man in charge of the justice system in heaven, the jails and the executions. he wears an eye patch not because he's blind but because his other eye has some sort of demonic powers that is powerful enough to kill a weak angel with one glare
	Riuet a kid who's part of the rebels, has got quite an unusual ^^;; interest in Katou's body, he's good at inventing things, an excellent mechanic and his fee for helping Setsuna is Katou (in other words, Setsuna sold Katou >.<)
	Barbiel she is Raphael's assistant, always staying faithfully by his side, it is only until later that you see her act very concerned towards him, enough to willing to die for him. Raphael has been in love with Sara all this time, only to find out in the end he loved Barbiel even more

	Assistant Great Throne this is Zaphkiel's assistant, the Thrones' second in command, she doesn't appear much but she appears to be one of the leaders of the rebel army of Anima Mundi
	Nanatsusaya Mitamanotsurugi this is NOT the Kira-senpai that we know. all her stats are "unknown", she appeared once in the entire story to save Setsuna's ass. she is powerful but rather mindless, more like an empty shell that was conjured up by the power of Nanatsusaya
	Kira Sakuya (the ghost) this is the real Sakuya, he died in an accident when he was young and Nanatsusaya approached him to make a deal to borrow his body. he somehow exists spiritually inside but doesn't appear too often because his powers are weak
	Kirie an Angel ST, brought in just to be used by Rociel, she greatly loved and admired Rociel, but was heartbroken when she died knowing Rociel didn't care for her at all. her soul was taken by Uriel and placed into Doll
	Saiki Ruri (Lapis Lazult) Sara's friend at school and one of the original candidates of the Angel Sanctuary project. she liked Setsuna and therefore felt betrayed when she found out that Setsuna only liked Sara, therefore Rociel took over her body and used her for a while in the period after his resurrection

	Adam Kadmon the holy hermit/saint who is the only being that knows both ancient black and white magic, second only to god and above all else, Alexiel and Rociel were born from his blood. he's currently imprisoned
	God he was thought by most to be asleep, gathering power against chaos which'll hit during the great cross, apparently everyone hates him including his own children, the great angels because he ruined their life

	Mr. Kira a mere human yes, but the father of the real Kira Sakuya. Sakuya died when he was a child and did not want to break his father's heart, so he made a deal with Nanatsusaya. Kira/Lucifer lived with this man for 13 years and became quite emotionally attached to him
	Mrs. Mudou Setsuna and Sara's mother, I believe is now divorced with their father. She raised Sara and the father had Setsuna, she always thought that Setsuna was the devil's child and some mischief and was determined to keep Sara far away from him
	Katou Sae I do realize that she has no face, this is Yu-kun's older sister, who only appeared in his flashbacks. She appeared to be kind but not too quick. Yu-kun was always jealous of her because she alone had their father's love until he found out that he was a result of an affair his mother had with another man
	Youji If not forgotten by now, he was a senior in Setsuna's school, classmates with Kira. He usually hangs out with Katou and then when Rociel was resurrected, he was turned into a slaving monster and quickly died.
	Nameless Young Samurai A young man, not so rich, who fell in love with Alexiel's feudal Japan reincarnation, they eloped together but he was caught and killed by her master's henchmen. At his death, he was approached by the spirit of Nanatsusaya and granted one wish in exchange for using his body. Then he was possessed by the spirit who first slept with the prostitute and then killed her with the katana Shiranui
	Nameless Prostitute This was one of Alexiel's reincarnations and Setsuna's past life. She fell in love with a poor young man and they escaped together from her master. In the end, she was the one who had died in a not according to Heaven's plans and broke Alexiel's chain of curses
